Samsung likely mass produce LPDDR5T RAM in 2024
In general, Samsung is the industry leader in the DRAM chip category since it is often the first to release devices based on new DRAM standards. However, it was caught off guard earlier this year when Micron and SK Hynix introduced its LPDDR5T DRAM chips just after the Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 CPU was announced. (sources SamMobile)
As per the report Samsung is more than ready to become the mass producer of LPDDR5T DRAM chips in 2024. During the tech giant’s investor meeting in Hong Kong some days back this inside information came to light.
At this meeting when one of the investors asked about Samsung’s plan for the chipset, then Samsung Electronics executive Ha-Ryong Yoon explained the company’s plans and roadmaps and revealed intel about their plan to become mass producers of LPDDR5T DRAM.
While Samsung is the world’s largest DRAM producer, SK Hynix of South Korea received the most attention in recent years. It has already launched mass production of LPDDR5T DRAM, which has been chosen by numerous Chinese smartphone makers for use in their new flagship models. HBM memory from it has also been used in some Nvidia server GPUs. As a consequence, Samsung notified its investors that an improved version of LPDDR5X DRAM will be released in 2024.
Samsung also revealed their plans to introduce detachable SSDs for automobiles in 2024 and GDDR7 VRAM for GPUs in 2025.
Also, the meeting was focussed on the AI roadmap of Samsung, not just the on the hardware roadmap.
