Android will start telling users when to replace your phone’s battery

If you have an Android phone and you are looking to use the same Android phone for a longer time, you will almost certainly need to change its battery at some point of time because batteries deteriorate over time, decreasing the maximum charge capacity of the battery and hence the runtime of your phone.

Knowing when you need to change your Android phone’s battery is difficult, as there is no straightforward way the measure the actual remaining capacity, similar to iPhones which shows battery health in settings. There are some applications that you can install on your phone and check the battery health but these will only give you a rough estimate, and they also need many days to collect data and then calculate the rough estimate of percent battery health, but there are many cases where they showed wrong results.

However, a recent report by androidauthority revealed some information in the Pixel Feature Drop for December 2023 where it appears that in a future build of Android, Google will probably begin showing far more battery-related data for Android phones, where a new page inside settings “Battery health” could give android users greater insight for the battery health of their smartphones.

According to the investigation, it is supposed to include information such as the “estimated percentage of charge the battery can currently hold compared to when it was new,” Which shows how much charge this battery could now hold compared to the charge the battery used to hold when it is brand new.

For eq: If the battery health is 80% now, then it means that the battery now can only hold 80% of the maximum charge this battery used to hold when it was brand new.

Apple’s iOS operating system currently displays battery health data, so it’s amazing to see Android get something similar with more insights. This could prove helpful for Android users who observe that their phones are not lasting as long as they are supposed to, and if it’s due to battery decay, they can choose whether to replace their batteries or buy a new phone.
