Xiaomi 15 Ultra, 15 Pro will feature Ultrasonic In-Display Fingerprint Scanner Leaked

In November The Xiaomi 14 and 14 Pro were launched in China, and now the company will probably launch the 14 Ultra in China by the end of this month. The Xiaomi 15 Pro and Xiaomi 15 Ultra will come with an ultrasonic in-display fingerprint scanner is rumored based on a leak by Smart Pikachu a Chinese tipster. However, it is uncertain if the Xiaomi 15 will feature an ultrasonic in-display fingerprint scanner, which raises the possibility that it might include an optical in-display fingerprint sensor.

If someone is unaware, the ultrasonic scanner model offers a higher level of high accuracy and security compared to its optical model via the use of sound waves to generate a 3D map of the user’s fingerprint. As this technology can penetrate flaws in the surface, it performs very well in challenging situations like moist or unclean fingers.

Optical sensors, on the contrary, use light to generate a 2D representation of the fingerprint, this makes them more spoofable but also speedier. Despite recent significant improvements in optical sensors, then to ultrasonic sensors provide a more reliable and trustworthy biometric authentication, particularly in difficult environmental settings.

Some of the recent smartphones that include in-screen fingerprint sensors that make use of ultrasonic technology are the Galaxy S24 series, Find X7 Ultra, and iQOO 12 Pro. Other phones, such as the Xiaomi 14 series, feature optical fingerprint sensors.

The Snapdragon 8 Gen 4 chipset will be used in the Xiaomi 15 series for powering based on recent rumors. Though the Xiaomi 15 Pro could feature a larger curved-edge display with 2K resolution, the Xiaomi 15 could have a 6.36-inch OLED 120Hz flat display offering 1.5K resolution. The Xiaomi 15 series mass production can start in September of this year, indicating a launch in October.
